When you first log into Schoology, you will see your Home screen. The Home screen lists Upcoming assignments, announcements, messages, grades and calendars for ALL your classes.

Note: Once an assignment is past due, it will no longer appear in the Upcoming column. If assignments suddenly disappear from this column, then they are past due and you must go to the Course page to access them.

The dimmed-out buttons to the left of your name allow you to easily look at Notifcations, Requests and Messages. You can send messages to me from within Schology here, if you choose.

But the most useful feature in this area is the Notifications button. This quickly shows you what your teacher and your classmates have been posting and doing in Schoology.

Explore this area from time to time to understand how it works.

In order to access course specific content, you must use the Course pull-down menu, located at the top of your screen. When you click on this window, you will see a list of all the course you have joined in Schoology. You can also join new course from here, as well.

Note: If you want to see an assignment that is past its due date, you must do so by first selecting the course.

The Course Homepage is where you can access everything to do with a particular class you have joined in Schoology.

On the left-hand side of the screen, you can access your course materials (note the pull-down menu), course Updates, Grades, Attendance and Members of the course.

In the center of the screen, you will see all the course materials your instructer provides for you. These are the same items that are available from the Materials pull-down menu on the left. The area we use most, is the Assignments area. In the example, you can see that the instructor has given the class 16 assignments. But, looking in the Upcoming area on the right, you can only see two. This is because the other 14 assignments are past their due date.

Note: The Grades and Attendance areas are not used by us. The grades in the gradebook come from your Schoology assignments. But this gradebook does not incude other categories of assignments and grades.

Each Assignment page will include a Due Date, a discription and instructions, a finished example and a link to the assignment videos. You can also see when the assignment was posted.

At the bottom of the page, you can submit comments. Here you can ask questions about the assignment or make comments, such as sharing a shortcut or tachnique you learned with the rest of the class.

On the right side of the page, is the Submission button. Once you are finished with you assignment, you push this button to submit it against the assignment.

Please read ALL the instructions on this page! There is sometimes very important imformation posted here.

Note: In this class, unless otherwise instructed, you are to always turn in a rendered file. DO NOT turn in native files. Acceptable file formats are .pdf, .jpg and .mov(H264)

When you are ready to turn in your work, navigate to the assignment page and press the Submit Assignment button on the right side of the screen. The Upload pop-up window will appear

In this window, you can upload existing files from either your computer, or your Schoology Resources or you can create a new file by using the tools under the Create tab.

In the Upload pop-up window, press the grayed-out button, above the Add a comment window. You will then see a browser (explorer) window pop up. Navigate to the file you wish to submit, selct it and press Open. The file will begin to upload.

If you need to submit more than one file, as is sometimes required, simply repeat the process by pressing the File button again, finding the file and pressing Open. This proccess can be repeated to upload as many files as the assignment requires.

Students also have the ability to submit comments with their assignments. This is sometimes helpful to the teacher, especially if you had a problem with the assignment.

Once you have finished uploading all the files and added any comments, press Submit.

Once you have submitted your assignment, it is always a good idea to check and make sure you submitted what was intended. To do this, click on the assignment link. You will be taken to your submission page. The file you uploaded will be shown in the window.

If you uploaded more than one file, you can access it by using the pull-down window on the upper left side of window.

You can also see and respond to any comments made by the teacher on the right-hand side of the window. If the teacher has given you any feedback here, please make sure you make not of it and re-submit the assignment if necessary.

Comments can also be seen in the Gradebook. But we will only use this area for comments that need immediate attention.
